Woolwich Suspect, Michael Adebolajo, Assaulted In Prison And Loses Two Teeth.Prison officers deny any wrongdoing.

One of the men suspected of murdering Drummer Lee Rigby has been assaulted in prison.

The Prison Service would not comment on reports that he lost two teeth in the incident and had been "targeted" by prison officers.

A spokeswoman said: "The police are investing an incident that took place at HMP Belmarsh on July 17.

"It would be inappropriate to comment while the investigation was ongoing."

Adebolajo is currently on trial for the murder of Rigby in May close to his barracks in Woolwich, London.

He made a bizarre appearance in court telling the judge: "It's not about you.

"This whole trial is about more than that. It's not about me, even though I played a major part in proceedings.

"Really and truly it's about the good, honest, decent, hardworking British members of society, whether they be Muslim or non-Muslim.

"They are the ones that have suffered the most..."

Drummer Rigby's emotional funeral was held last week.

Prison officers 'deny wrongdoing' in Adebolajo assault

Prison officers "strenuously deny any wrongdoing" after Woolwich murder suspect Michael Adebolajo lost two teeth when he was restrained in jail, a trade union said today.

The 28-year-old was injured at high security Belmarsh prison in south-east London on Wednesday, where he is being held on suspicion of murdering soldier Lee Rigby.

The Prison Officers' Association said the Ministry of Justice had done "little to avoid sensationalist reporting" of the incident.

"The POA are aware of an incident that took place on Wednesday July 17, which involved a prisoner being subjected to restraint using approved techniques called Control and Restraint," the union said.

"Our members strenuously deny any wrongdoing and the POA will be supporting them legally and emotionally during this difficult time."

It said it expects the officers to be "fully exonerated".
